If you have a dog with a thick coat and you're concerned about matting when using a harness, please consider selecting a Gooby Head-In harness, like our Lite Gear Z or Comfort X harness.
Head-in harnesses should be considered because the pulling direction on the harness with a leash is more horizontal to the dog's body, whereas the pulling direction on a Step-In harness is more vertical to the body. This upward movement causes the harness body and straps to press down on the dog's coat, which will cause matting. This is even more the case if the dog has a tendency to pull, which will result in more pulling, which may result in more matting. The horizontal pulling direction of a Head-In harness does not cause the harness to press down on the dog as much, which may reduce the matting issue.
