Selecting the correct harness size.

As with any product, choosing the correct size is important, but especially when it comes to a harness. Our Gooby harnesses are designed with specific functions in mind, and if the right size is not selected and fitted properly for your dog, it may reduce the effectiveness of that product-specific function and increase the discomfort for your dog. In addition, just like people, dogs comes in all shapes and sizes, even within the same breed, and they also have a variety of needs when it comes to a harness.

Due to these factors, while we at Gooby do our utmost to design with consideration of sizing for a broad range of dogs, there is a possibility you may find that the harness you've selected may not fit as well as you'd like even if your dog's size is within the sizing guidance of the selected harness. As such, please consider the following for additional guidance on selecting a harness size that fits properly.

1. Proper Measurement
   1. The main size consideration is the chest measurement: How do I measure my dog?
   2. Does your dog have a thick coat or a lot of hair? Consider this when measuring, as the coat or hair may give a "false" or inaccurate measurement. This is particularly important when considering the Escape Free® series of harnesses. I'm concerned about harness matting my dog's hair.
2. Overlapping Sizing
   1. If, once you have measured your dog, you find that his/her measurement falls into 2 (or even 3) sizes, consider the following:
      1. Does you dog have room to grow? If your dog has more room to grow, consider sizing up, particularly if you dog sizes toward the upper end of the smaller size.
      2. The lower end of a particular size's range is its "true" size, meaning that is when the harness is adjusted all the way down and at its tightest.
      3. For Escape Free®, we suggest choosing the smaller of two sizes, because of the risk that the harness may be too big, which will result in increased escape risk. For example, for the Escape Free Easy Fit, if your dog's chest measures 18", consider selecting the Small over the Medium.
3. Selecting a Size
   1. Gooby does not use global sizes, due to design variances between products. Please note this when shopping between products. Why are the sizes different between products?
   2. Is your dog in-between sizes, where larger size is too big and the smaller size is just a bit tight? In these situations we offer harness extenders by request. Please contact hello@goobypet.com for more information.
